Hey /lit/, what's your opinion on this book?

>> No.4070905

I can confirm that yes, I did read it in school as well.

I kind of always figured that it was just taught because of the ridiculously easy symbolism; you know, to introduce high school freshmen to the concept. I didn't hate it or anything, but I didn't like it very much either.

It does have very clear and iconic symbols, much the same as 1984 does.

But beyond that, you must admit it is rather apropos for high schoolers, a bunch of teenage kids constantly feeling at odds with society, thinking they're being held back by all these conventions and structures that predate them.

I think there are also other elements to it. Some things about the sublime.

>> No.4071054

I liked the atmosphere but the narrative and plot stagnates a bit. Poor piggy.

Can you recommend any other books with a similar atmosphere?

It's a good little book with interesting characters, but don't believe the hype. It's worth reading, you won't regret it but it's not essential read or anything.
