Every time I go to B&N the classic fiction section is a ghost town save for old people, and most are in the DVDs section, the Starbucks with the pretentious panoply of authors on the trim, or in the YA/New Age type sections. Also, without fail, I see someone taking a cellphone pic of their mocha frap or a magazine they found.

When the masses learned to read, literature turned from art into a product to be consumed. I'm not just talking about your average trash like Harry Potter or Murikami, but all of the classics as well. We should be happy that the masses have found the internet instead. The education and enlightenment of the masses have finally come to an end, and thus books and literature is slowly transforming into something wonderful again.

i live in philadephia. the main public library is full of minorities and homeless people but it is really very well stocked, looks beautiful and often has cute girls there studying or w/e.

i dont know why these bitches are coming to the downtown library to study instead of their university library but almost every time i've went there's been at least one young attractive girl there somewhere.

the barnes and noble is also good and i've had nice conversations with the cashier about mishima.

OP here, pretty surprised this thread survived.
All of the people who responded to me with "they need computers to find jobs" and all this other crap don't know how to read. They're at the library to browse 4chan, I guess. I've had to use the library for this exact purpose myself. Why do you think I go to the library? Because I can't afford new books. It's not like I went home weeping bitter tears for THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY. It was just depressing, the sequence of events together, that's all.
And nobody goes to the library at 2pm on a fucking Sunday to use the internet to look for work, especially not poor people, are you fucking kidding me?

I have.
Buying them online, pirating them, receiving them from others...
But i got so used to it, i had a bad moment some years ago.

>Go to a library near college. A big one, but that i've never visited.
>Went for a motivational book a teacher told us to read for an activity. It wasn't available at campus.
>Wait half an hour for it to be open. Only other three people around.
>At the counter with the book in hand, the clerk hands me a paper to fill with my ID, telephone numbers, etc.
>"You must put two numbers different from your house's"
>Only know mine and at grandma's. Never cared about being in touch with others.
>She checks the first without an answer (there was nobody at home) and the second (grandma was asleep).
>I say that i don't have others.
>"It can be from a friend, your girlfriend..." She watches me with a very cold face.
>"No"
>"Then, i'm sorry. Come back when you have other numbers we can reach you through"
>I grow pale. Mutter "maybe i'll come tomorrow" to her while i go to another counter for my belongings, clenching my teeth and looking down.

When i borrowed a book i did it at my school's library for homeork and such.
I felt bad; discriminated with no reason. It hit me hard.
I spend too much time in front of this computer.
