I'm assuming you're still in high school and undeveloped because you thing Hemmingway is a decent writer and because you use the term "dat" to express yourself.

Not OP, but two things:

1.) Hemingway was an excellent writer.
1.1.) There's only one M in Hemingway.
1.2.) You put "thing" when you meant "think".
2.) Thomas Pynchon uses "dat" for "that" in a few of his books.
2.1.) You are on 4chan. I assure you your shit does stink.

So Hemingway and and Mishima kill themselves and they're manly, but David Foster Wallace kills himself and he's a pussy. Why is that?

>> No.4024720

>>4024717
I don't think DFW's a pussy, but I think that at least in Mishima's case it's easy to see why his suicide is viewed differently. It's hanging yourself on your porch out of depression and addiction vs. disemboweling yourself in public during a failed coup out of honor (I mean, obviously there's a hell of a lot more going on, but it's usually presented as muh honor.)

This happened last night on this tv show I watch:

"Maybe the reason I have writer’s block is because I’ve been living too casual with you clowns! I need real life adventure, like Ernest Hemingway had at my age. Man I gotta run with the bulls. I gotta kill a man with my bare hands after making sweet love to him and then sleep in the belly of his horse. I gotta eat my way out of a sandwich house."

"How much do you know about Hemingway?"

"Not a lot! But I’m gonna learn."

Anyway do you guys know why he uses archaic English in the dialogues? Is it to translate formal spanish (usted etc.)?

Mishima, Hemingway, and McCarthy all have great prose, but in different ways.

Mishima's prose has a lyric and poetic quality to it.
Hemingway's prose is tight and terse, giving what little he does write and certain kind of emphasis.
McCarthy does a little of both of the above, and to what degree he's poetic or terse depends on the book.

I think The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea is a fine introduction. If you really get into him, you could maybe tackle his four-volume epic masterpiece, The Sea of Fertility, which includes Spring Snow, Runaway Horses, The Temple of Dawn, and The Decay of the Angel.

Also the Schrader biopic, A Life in Four Chapters, is really excellent. Really captures what he was all about.
