Anyone here read Ted Kaczynski's writings in technological Slavery? I feel like I'm getting addicted to the Internet, should I read this?

>addicted to the Internet

You're not addicted, you just have nothing better to do, most of the time.

Real addiction is compulsive and controlling. Browsing 4chan for 8 hours straight just because you don't have a job to go to nor friends to hang out with does not an addiction make.

A lot of people use the internet compulsively. I know that I'm on the internet for most of the time I spend awake.

To OP, I like some of what Ted has to say, but he seems more interested in Evolian traditionalism than some kind of Zerzanian anarcho-primitivism.

>> No.3984414

I've read it. It's obviously radical and just a rambling of the same thing over and over again, but I actually did agree with some of the things he claims. I got interested in technological sociology studies after reading Michael Adas' Machines as the Measure of Men.

Anyway, the old Unabomber isn't as whacked out as you might think. In fact, there is one thing he actually pretty much got right about us as a society. At the risk of being reported as a radical myself, I'll let you read it and decide for yourself if you agree with me or not.

All in all, though, it is definitely worth reading. It's super short if I remember correctly anyway. If nothing else, it gives you a glimpse into the mind of one of the most famous and feared criminals of our time. Go for it.

I'd also recommend The Technological Society by Jacques Ellul.

Chuck Klosterman (I know I know) said as much about the Unabomber in one of his essays. He basically said "he was crazy, but he wasn't completely wrong about his beliefs."

He was a major Luddite though, and I think that's just not a realistic way to look at society. There's probably a middle ground that's ideal.

Transsexualism generally results from feelings of extremely powerlessness among men. Ted had only briefly reached that mental state before he found his purpose.

Transsexuality can be psychologically attributed to dissociation and depersonalization. I won't be convinced otherwise. I also believe that their are some biological and chemical-environmental causes; xenoestrogens for example.

I don't see a reason to separate and single-out transsexuality. Within the last 5 years I'd say a lot of bad things are happening in academia as relating to transsexuality.

I was eating my dinner and I'm not terribly interested in the subject.

Openness toward the mystery is what Dr. Heidegger ordered. Use the technology for what its needed for and then put it the fuck away. No reason to carry your phone around all of the time or to use the internet for more than research/necessary communication purposes.

Is that a real book cover? Very tasteful. Three deaths and a lot of maimings.

Also Kaczynski was a leech on industrial society. It was not despite, but because of industrialism that he could survive on a buck a day. If he had lived some 300 years ago and wanted to fix his crapper with some nails, he would have to pay for it with back-breaking work.

And the rest of the modern primitivists are a bunch of faggots that should die from intestinal parasites.

I definately recommend reading it. THe first half is pretty philosophical and doesn't have that much to do with technology per se. If you're interested in Nietzsche then you'll see the similarties between the two in the first half.

THe latter half is about computers, technology, selective breeding, eugenics, and so on.
