Is there any real point in having friends?

After getting into nietzsche rational self interest, i just cant see others on the same level as before.

the only friends i can see myself ever making are very intelligent people i can learn from. The general coop of idiots im surrounded by daily just have nothing of value to offer.

Have you actually read Nietzsche? Friendship is one of the greatest things to him, he was obsessed with it all his life.

Thats not what i mean. In light of realizing I am the hero of this story i call life, and with such big dreams from myself....i just see little value in associating with the majority of vermin we call society. Im sure nietzsche had some wonderful friends that added value to his life...but for me, i see associating with most as a detriment to my own potential.

My god, what a warped viewpoint you must have to even ask this question.

Can you really not use your brain to think of ways friends are useful? Like, for fun, for helping you move things, to identify with them and talk, to learn about life, to get a job, or anything like that?

Friends are invaluable in a world like this. We are social creatures. We are like primates.

You just have to think about the traits you want your friends to have, and then go meet people like that.

My friends and I talk about literature, politics, philosophy, and life, and we never run out of topics because we are all creative and insightful, and derive pleasure from thinking.

With regards to OPs elitism/snobbery though, I think I can relate. I'm doing a few menial part time jobs this summer and when I hear about people who go to college (which in UK is for people who aren't smart enough to go to uni) I get weirdly mad, as if I'm annoyed I have to be with people this dumb. Not likely in the fashion that you think. In all likelihood, the constituents of 4chan ARE your friends. If you think about it a bit, there's little difference between the melting pot that is 4chan, and an actual human being. In fact, one could make a compelling argument that the Internet as a whole fully retaining the characteristics of it's progenitors.

If I was a tad more eloquent I could fully explain why and how this is, however, being as I am, I'll leave it as an exercise for others.
