I called Dostoyevsky 'the D-Man' once to a girl. She never responded.

>> No.3929775

The correct spelling would be Lev Tolstoi (not Leo) and Fjodor Dostojevski. With regards from Eastern Europe. And you're welcome.

Sometimes I call Heidegger "Heidi".

"Fjodor" isn´t pronounced in English as you think it is; "Fyodor" would be more accurate. With regards from Eastern Europe. And you're welcome.

Germans pronounce 'j' as a 'y'.

I'm English but when I read 'Fjodor' it does make sense.

It's Fjordor Dostojevskij in Danish.
I can understand english people will have a hard time pronouncing the names since they're not really spelt as they're pronounced in English, in my humble opinion

I don't really care when peeps call him Tommy P, but those who think it's somehow clever to call Pynchon "Pinecone" just make me mad

>> No.3929969

I say Daffy-Duck Wallace a lot, and I call Pynchon 'Ruggles', and I've been known to say Old Dostov on occasion, and I'll sometimes call Jean-Paul Sartre 'Johnny Sarcha', but that's about all I can think of; there's also Micky Foucault, I remember, and Old Freddo (Nietzsche). This might just be because I'm Australian, though.
