Which receives more weight when you read literature: the elegance of the ideas presented, or the elegance of presenting ideas?

For me, I tend to care more about the former. Though it is a shame when an author cannot make his ideas coherent, it is easily forgiven if it is coherent enough that I can still pick out the main idea.
