Would anyone care to recommend an English translation?

Many thanks.

One of my favorite books ever written.

I prefer the Walter Arndt translation. A lot of people say that Gordon Taylor's is the best, but I haven't read it and it is quite old, far more difficult to find than Arndt.

Has anyone read Marlowe's Dr Faustus? It's probably my second favourite renaissance play after Henry V

Anyone confirm this?

Many thanks for the suggestions. I don't mind dated language.

As for Marlowe's drama, I had completely forgotten it existed. His Hero and Leander and translations of the Elegies are simply marvelous.

I am currently reading the Penguin Classics English translation. Still in the first act, since I've been multi-reading and switching a lot between books. It's nice though.

Pic related.

I've heard this as well, and that it is "of high literary merit." whatever that may mean.

David Luke may be of interest as well as the 2 I mentioned in my above post >>3906355 ...

>"For Faust in modern English, my recommendation is David Luke. His translation of Part 1 of Faust won the European Poetry Translation Prize in 1989.... -- the phrasing is smooth, accurate, and highly readable. I read and re-read his translation with great pleasure, something that I hardly get from translated works."

I have a version lying around by Robert MacDonald. I've flirted with the first twenty or so pages, but I was going to start soon. Is his translation even mildly respected?

I'm with this guy. Which one is considered by academics to be the superior translation?
