Why is lyric writing such garbage? Seriously, why is it so bad? It's like songwriters don't even strive for any technical prowess. From a formalist perspective, 99.9% of lyrics are just bad. If they were poems they'd be laughed at. I don't get it.

Almost all current, popular songs have the word "Tonight" in it. The word is completely unneeded, but I've noticed it in a bunch of songs and it pisses me of. That one song, "Soul Sister" I think it's called just has the word tonight used in it over and over and it contributes nothing to the lyrics at all.
