Your question doesn't really make sense. It's like saying, 'Cow. what's your stance?' I suppose a person can have a stance on a concept, but you chose an obscure one to debate.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW, IT'S AN EPISTEMOLOGY THREAD

GEDDIT?!?!?!?!?!?!

If philosophy doesn't let you fly and shoot laser bolts out your ass, then what the fuck is the point?

>> No.3861584

No, i'm being serious here. I'm saying what the point of being all meta if nothing "meta" ever effects the real world?

>> No.3861586

whats the point of being a genius philosopher without the credentials to back it up? Its like being stuck at a poetry reading for the rest of your life.

What's the point of Being if being never effects the world, given a long enough timeline?

>> No.3861590

I mean, i really, really want to study this stuff sometimes. But then science comes along and says, hey, i have this thing that lets you shoot lightning bolts out of your ass.

When philosophy can't even promise you wonder...

I love the idea of creating doubt in your own mind, then filling in those cracks with something more solid, or better yet, something that works to your advantage.

I don't like the idea of creating doubt simply to fill my anxiety quota.

>> No.3861601

>>3861583

Being "all meta", that is, curious about knowledge of things human, natural, and divine - this curiosity is what led to the invention of flight and understanding lightning or lasers, the latter which with a bit of experimentation could easily shoot from your ass. Come to think of it:

Get a laser pointer, any basic kind with a momentary push button on the side will do. Put it in your ass. Book a plane ticket. Once you're on board, tighten the muscles in your ass. There philosophy will let you fly and shoot laser bolts out your ass. Q.E.D.

>> No.3861602

certain things, when left undefined, have more potential. I would have never come up with the idea of the numeric variable being substituted with a letter, for instance. And it led to all these collective advancements that I can only wonder at.

But the problem is, when a thing is not true, but can be said for certain to exist, it is of itself a paradox. X is neither without meaning or substance, but can not be said to truly exist as anything but a mark on a wall.

>> No.3861608

>>3861601
my point is I hate being all smart and stuff. I have a terrible energy that surrounds my intelligence that is akin to a crack in the universe.

>> No.3861611

i guess my point is, i can't make it real. I can understand X, but can't build ass lasers.

>> No.3861614

And you damn well know I'm talking about the kinds of lasers that can shoot down tanks and stuff, so don't give me none o that sharpie in the pooper bullshit.

>> No.3861616

Often, the understanding of X is what precludes the building of ass lasers, so that once you understand X, you no longer want to build ass lasers, even though that was your initial motivation for doing so.
