Freelancing then was horrible. Now it's hell. I used to write for a news site. It got me literally nowhere further in my writing endeavors, and to be honest it didn't teach me much about content quality either because they didn't really want to be hassled with editing... the guy with the job title of Editor was a lazy prick who didn't even bother checking sources.

Considering how much you get paid (especially with the invention of "traffic-based bonuses" that, much like tips to waitresses, end up giving your employer an excuse to pay you less for content with promises of how interesting news with lots of traffic will make you earn more), you're better off flipping burgers.
