For my English class, I need to write on two works of literature with similar themes or ideas that need to be compared. I don't often browse /lit/, but I was wondering what you guys think would be a good pair?

Pic more or less unrelated.

You're in luck, we just did a synthesis essay for english class, and the article "When Canada Met Andy" and the short story "The Soul Of Capitalism" are both similar in that they are about acceptance of modern art and things like that. Assuming you're allowed to use articles and short stories and stuff, not just novels

Jazz?

No, it has to be a novel. This is for the major paper of the year.

This would actually be fun to do
I wish I was in an English class now.

yes, jazz.

Yes. Jazz, the type of music.
It features prominently in both works and becomes a touchstone for a certain set of ideas and modes of living and even a whole era and generation. Plus, the characters' relationships with the musical form is a very informative one.

The problem with this is that it has to be a novel that we haven't studied in any other course, so obviously the Great Gatsby is not an option.

Thanks though.

Transgression in the works of Bataille and de Sade for maximum edge
also "transgressive" is a catchy buzzword in academia but probably not high school, if that's where you're at

Are you hatin' on Bataille because I can't tell by your post

I like Bataille a lot, but I don't like the way academia treats him so much
although it's fun to read essays where people go out of their way to say they have an open mind and weren't 'offended' by the text or whatever but they still find him 2edgy

the Papa John's employees in this are p amusing, but skipping through to them is the only worthwhile part of the video really

I really want to go show like Peter Sotos books to random employees and film it but I'm pretty sure I'd go to jail
