OP don't worry about reading fast, worry about reading right. Learn to appreciate the beauty of words, to reflect upon what you read, the underlying themes. Pause where pauses are needed. Imagine voices for characters. Play out dialogues in your head.

I see more women reading than men.
Although it's often terrible fiction that they're reading.
I've come to the conclusion that more women read than men, but that the small minority of men who do read for pleasure tend to read challenging fiction and heavy going non fiction than women do.
Not to say that women don't read challenging fiction or non fiction - just seems to be a rarity.
