I don't get it.

What's to get?

>> No.3811847

Re-read the chapter where he meets up that bourgeoisie group of people.

>> No.3811858

I like the part where he casually rapes a schizophrenic women.

>> No.3811866

It's not hard to see the appeal of Bukowski, but that doesn't make him interesting in the least

>> No.3811868

>Bukowski
>valuable to literature

there's your error, op

>> No.3811882

>>3811868
This.
Enjoy it and stop.

>> No.3811886

Just because you don't enjoy his work doesn't mean he's not valuable to literature.

>> No.3811900

>>3811886
but it isn't...

>> No.3811903

>>3811886

Just because you enjoy his work doesn't mean he's valuable to literature. Bukowski was a poor writer and he was never valuable to literature.

Plenty of smart people think he is, tho

>> No.3811920

>smart people

oh wow, well if that's the case who are we to question them

>> No.3811926

>>3811918

Plenty of smart people have said a lot of stupid things. We'll let time tell about Bukowshi and let his influence on writers to come determine his place in literature.

>> No.3811945

I haven't read anything Bukowski wrote, though I have watched an interview of him with his at-the-time girlfriend where he hits her and starts screaming at her. Sounds like a piece of shit, to be honest.

>> No.3811960

>>3811945

lol he like, pushes her off a couch with his feet a little roughly, way to make shit up faggot.

>> No.3811964

Bukowski had an original, minimalist prosaic style which pretentious faggots can't come to terms with.

>> No.3811974

>>3811964

b-but muh purple

>> No.3811975

>>3811964
no. he has a simple and boring style that keeps plebs and derps entertained

>> No.3812009

>>3811960
lol some people just go into an irrational rage when someone's a little mean to an attractive woman, it's sad

>> No.3812034

>And don't expect encouragement from the asspies on this board, this is the only place where they can feel like they accomplished something by reading a book.

He's a lesser version of Celine and Miller, two of his stated influences. The strong first person narrative, humorous dialogue, and bleak outlook are all there, but he can't take off the way they can. He and Dr. Thompson make for a good introduction to better books of the same style for young Americans. I would recommend one of them without guilt to anyone, but only as a gateway to Roth, Houellebecq, ect.
