I'm about to start writing my first story /lit/. I've written stuff before, but nothing ever really meant anything to me.

With writing, the idea is spontaneous, but the execution must be meticulously planned. Otherwise you will never end up with a coherent whole. Of course this doesn't apply to short stories.

Don't have much, but there's this: if you think of somebody reading your stuff you will never, ever finish the first draft. It is crippling. Write it for yourself and yourself only. Then you edit the fuck out of it until it bears the light of day.

Thanks so far. I also have one more specific question. How do I avoid sounding to callous/edgy when writing about a conroverse topic?
