Misanthropes mistakenly think that they are in a position to judge the human race.
They often criticize humanity in general as though they themselves are above humanity and above their own criticisms.
They think that their obsession with the most morbid elements of humanity means that humanity itself is morbid throughout.

Most of all though, it's this

ok an excerpt from a page titled : "Math doesn't suck, you do."

" Sucking at math is like sucking at cooking. I'm tired of eating shitty food because you're too much of a dipshit to follow a recipe. Also, I'm tired of hearing people brag about how they can't cook like it's some kind of badge of honor. It's like a race to the bottom with you people. I always hear people one-upping each other about how inept they are at cooking. If you don't know how to chop up a few carrots to make a decent soup, take your life.

Math is exactly like cooking: just follow the recipe. Symbols look confusing? Can't figure out how to solve a problem? All I hear is, "Waaah! Boo-hoo! I didn't read the introduction to the chapter that tells me exactly how to solve this generic category of problems!" "

They are. Unless you're going for the whole 'u can't judge anythink ever muh pyrrho' approach.

>They often criticize humanity in general as though they themselves are above humanity and above their own criticisms.
One can criticize humanity as a whole and still value certain individuals including oneself. One can also hate humanity including oneself.

>They think that their obsession with the most morbid elements of humanity means that humanity itself is morbid throughout.
This is an objection to every opinion and value judgement there is. Again, only valid if you go full Pyrrho.

>It's vanity. Misanthropy is vanity of the most ugly kind. It comes out of a feeling of being superior to all the rest of the human race.
It doesn't have to. Then again, an opinion being self-serving doesn't dismiss it.

>Misanthropes are people that can't stand anybody but themselves, and even when they criticize themselves they are in love with themselves for being so high as to pass such judgements.
Your whole objection seems based on unspoken religious ideals of humility as inherently virtuous and it's completely based on the assumption that a misanthrope conceptually distances himself from humanity. If I don't do that, do you have any objections left?

100fn or so from where I grew up, in a little town near the foot of the Sunhen Mountains, there is a pillar. A single structure of gleaming metal, 10cz high, burnished in some strange material that never tarnishes nor rusts. It is one of twelve others like it scattered across the globe. It is perfect in every respect; every dimension flawless, every face perfectly smooth. And, most of all, it is an enigma ancient beyond belief.

It is a world heritage site now, a tourist attraction, studied by scientists and debated by philosophers and historians. It has been derided as a hoax, despite every test science can think of demonstrating it has stood on this ground for over 100,000 revs. It was old when our kind still lived in caves and animal furs. And it is the most important thing to have ever existed.

For on it, repeated over and over, in scripts curled and angular, mathematical formulae and ideograms, in pictures and digital codes, is a single message in all the languages of the world:

We are Humanity.
Sleep well, little ones.
For until you join us among the stars,
We shall keep you safe.

And occasionally, just occasionally on a warm summer night when the sky is clear and the stars shine bright, if you're lucky or observant enough, you can see a tiny light streak across the sky; a silent reminder that they still keep their promise.

Hardly. maybe that's true for some people, but I could not identify with that. It isn't weakness I despise either, but the deception and almost universal ability for people to manipulate others to get and do what they want. It's a problem of control and accepting authority from those who deserve those roles as opposed to those that do not. Power struggles between people. Owning land. Marriage. Acquisition of money and social status.

>Humans aren't in a position to judge humanity because they are too absorbed in it to form a proper view. A human cannot get outside of humanity in order to view the entire picture.
We can't objectively view the entire picture of anything. It's always distorted, cherry picked and from a certain perspective. Misanthropy is, like all likes and dislikes, a matter of taste. Hating humanity is like enjoying icecream. No justification needed. You can say I don't really know humanity or am not really sure what icecream tastes like but my opinion is still there. All opinions are formed from incomplete information and experience. And all preferences are per definition irrational.

>If you were being consistent you would see that every criticism you apply to "humanity" applies to yourself. You think humans are too violent? You have the inclination and potential for violence yourself. The same goes for envy and greed, and whatever other vice.
That doesn't make the criticisms any less valid. A sick doctor can still diagnose an illness. Then again, I mostly dislike humanity for it's shitty tastes, aims and convictions and aesthetics. Obviously I don't share these beliefs or I wouldn't dislike them. Therefore I can safely say I hate people in general without hating myself.

>Sure, but I would call this a form of sickness.
It would be if it would be detrimental to ones health, but I generally enjoy my contempt. Hence my asking for misanthropic books so that I may have a laugh.

>it's a value judgement and a very shortsighted and disgusting value judgement to make.
It's no more shortsighted and disgusting than hating candy. You're dismissing misanthropy as an invalid judgement yet your whole argument comes down to general objections to all judgements at all and a badly concealed "stop disliking what I like".

"Why is it, Diogenes, that pupils leave you to go to other teachers, but rarely do they leave them to come to you?"

"Because," replied Diogenes, "one can make eunuchs out of men, but no one can make a man out of eunuchs"

A student of philosophy, eager to display his powers of argument, approached Diogenes, introduced himself and said, "If it pleases you, sir, let me prove to you that there is no such thing as motion." Whereupon Diogenes immediately got up and left.

Diogenes was once invited to dinner by a wealthy man. During the evening, one of the guests became so outraged by Diogenes' general behaviour that he began to throw bones at him, calling him a "dog." Whereupon Diogenes got up, went to the guest, cocked up his leg and urinated on him.

Diogenes was asked why he always begged. "To teach people," replied Diogenes. "Oh yes, and what do you teach?" people would ask him scornfully. "Generosity", he replied.
