Do you guys think I need to add a 'respectively' to the end of:

'the essay insists upon the validity of generic heterogeneity – advocating a distinction between texts of 'adventure' and 'character' (...)

It's late and I can't quite work out whether it's necessary or not. Thanks, bros.

no you don't

No.

And not to be a douche, but that sentence sounds ugly.

Kill yourself for trying that hard to sound "smart."

I don't understand your inverted commas.

Are you bringing the idea of smartness into question, or suggesting that I'm failing to fulfill a definition of smartness which I invented for myself?

I've really only used 'respectively' when describing two separate things in a separate part of the sentence.

"Jan and Jack are both senior citizens, aged 68 and 72, respectively."

I would also get rid of the hyphen, seems a comma would be more appropriate.

not that guy, but i think he's implying it sounds smart but actually isn't

I think we can all safely agree on this. Though without context it's hard to see how tryhard it really is.
