When I try to read a book I have songs playing in my head, and it distracts me from reading, I can't shut it out.

Anyone got any tips on how to clear your mind and focus on a book or should I just hit it with some Jack Daniels on the rocks?

I'd say just try to focus more on your book, maybe try not listening to music for an hour or so before you read

practice meditation, it will effect your daily life and help you concentrate among other things

And of course you can play less distracting music, your brain will latch on to that.
Classical music, instrumental metal and rock,
Just keep trying different combinations, you'll find something that works.
