Dames en heren, ik presenteer u: de beste novelle!

All i read by Mulisch made him look like a tryhard faggot.

I did like the first part of de ontdekking vd hemel.

Now, go read nescio. http://www.nescio.info/bibliotheek/fragmentjes/frag5.html

>> No.3722992

Is it really that good? I read The Discovery of Heaven but found it disappointing.

>> No.3722993

What _did_ you read by him? De Ontdekking van de Hemel is one of his worst. The story has no direction whatsoever and it the dialogs don't get past surface-level shit you hear now and then, like "did you know there's as many stars in the universe, as cells in your brain?" Yes, we fucking know, now tell me something new.

In Het Beeld en de Klok, he actually shows you some of the wonders of the world.

But I was 16-17 at that time (too young to form a good opinion).
I mostly disliked the "hey look what i know" attitude.

I'm convinced by OP's persuasive arguments. I must get this book immediately.

He didn't have that attitude at all in De Aanslag. It's one of his more serious books and he's more mature there. If you didn't like that one, you probably won't like any of his books.

As for Siegfried, I thought it was creative but I get why you don't like it.

I really liked the first two parts, the third part dragged a little and the fourth part was weird. I understand why people dislike the constant name dropping of composers, scientists and philosophers but I guess he also wants us to learn something.

I did say I liked the first half. But that was due the story.
I just don't like his writing style.

Idem with Grunberg. I only read Figuranten and I don't remember anything of it but annoyance.
I had to read it for school

I dislike and like Mulish for the same reason, his enormous unapologetic ego. His literature is meant more for a circle jerk of classic, but he brings this haughty mess to the public in a charming way.

And an ironic ego requires a giant real ego to pull off. He indeed had this huge giant fake ego, but if you'd take a look underneath there would be a real one.
A magnificent ego is not a bad thing, it's just that his fake ego was haughty as well.

He once said that the only reason he didn't win a Nobel prize for literature because there were so many books written, and that all those physicists had it easy being noticed.

Why is it that of the non-english language Dutch literature is prevalent? Is it because we have such a big internet influence, or is our literature really just better than French/Italian/Norwegian/whatever contemporary literature?
