What does /lit/ think of this?

I actually loved it, but I'm a sucker for vietnam literature.

I don't like very much literature written by baby killers. So, nope, I did not like it.

Politics aside, the tone is too whiny.

O'brien writes pretty beautifully about innards hanging from tree branches. One of my favorite books.

They were lucky.

My buddies died face up drowning in their own blood.

You young lucky cunts today.

Hey, I didn't think this would be enough for my own thread, so I'll just put it here.

I want to get a book for my friend. He loves Hemingway, Raymond Carver, and Tim O'Brien. So, you know, really short sentence structure focused around men thinking about life.

I want to get him something new to read, similar to these authors. What would you guys recommend?

I thought it was pretty good, but it's been a few years since I read it and the last time I read any Vietnam war literature before that was when I was in middle school.

I do remember that scene, and it was pretty good.

Can I shave with an edge like that?

>> No.3705119

Read it in high school. Was pretty good especially when it deliberately forsakes the grim-and-gritty in favor of the supernally or infernally absurd. The Indian guy sinking into the field of shit is an amazing sequence.

Conan the Barbarian by Robert E. Howard.

I really liked it actually, only read it once years ago back in high school, but there were a number of things about that have stuck with me. Particularly the part where Kiowa gets shot and drowns in the flooded rice paddy because they couldn't get to him in time. ;_;

Was thinking of reading the Wendy's Value menu or two sing panel cartoons from an newpaper printed in the 90's.
Which should I read first?
pic related. It's the value menu, not the cartoons.
