>> No.3681261

>>3681233
everyone steals. you're not original. no one is, and no one ever was. you regurgitate ideas and add different regurgitated ideas on top of those and then call it an original idea.
blatant copy pasting a work and then claiming it your own, i.e. plagiarism, on the other hand, you should definitely avoid

>>3681233
Stealing is fine if you polish the old ideas a bit so they look like new and preferably combine them in a fresh way.

Ideas come on a golden thread from the highest heaven
They pirouette down one at a time
When they enter the head there is a noise like brittle plastic rustling
And a frisson in the body's core

I get my ideas from Swistokofniel a spirit of fire that possesses my radiator. At night, as I huddle against the cold he whispers into my ear. If I do not tell his stories he will refuse to warm my room, and I will freeze to death.

Bathroom and walks or just lounging about. Basically when not engaging in any form of interaction or media consumption. Cut off external stimulation long enough and your mind will go "well, guess I'll have to entertain myself" and there come the wonderfuls.

Another great one: Riding shotgun on a long drive and conversation stops in a pleasant, non-awkward way. Like when you're in the car with your father or something.

I get ideas mainly in two ways.

One, most naturally, is just walking around and I think of something funny or interesting in relation to what I'm experiencing/observing. Sometimes I think about how my situation would be different if I did something crazy or someone else did something crazy. Then I jot down a note or two about it to remind myself.

Second way, is that I read quite a bit on my kindle and whenever something (a description, idea, quote, reference) catches my eye, I highlight it. Then occasionally I go back to my saved highlights, pick one, and try to do a free write off of it to generate something fresh or new.

Ideas are the easy part. If you wanted ideas you could start a thread on hear saying:"Guys, I need ideas for a novel, fantasy or horror" You'd get about half attempts at humorous mockery, and a few lame efforts to goad you into anger, or start an argument, but you'd probably also get a buttload of pretty good ideas. most of us have notebooks full of ideas. it's the execution that's the hard part.
