hi-res isn't for old people. It'll render shit more clearly and truly. It's really important for pdf's, I find that putting a textbook on a kindle makes it nearly impossible to read.

meh, still doesn't compare to my high-res, colour e ink Hanvon.

If I didn't have to read so many pdf textbooks I might downgrade to this Kobo, though the new Shanda ereader looks better.

This. Why the fuck are companies like B&N and Kobo dragging out shitty displays like this? Our ereader market still has these godawful black and white displays with a half-assed 'glow' function, and our tablets and phones are shiny and unusable in the sun.

Meanwhile Japan and Korea have been using color e-ink displays for ages, and the Mirasol screen is perfect for both e readers and tablets; it looks better in the sun, and it completely reduces any eye strain. This is one of the screens in bright sunlight, and they have 4 different ereader models that use either that screen or a variation of it.

We are going to have another 10 'cutting edge' products before we have anything like that, just so the companies can squeeze out every penny with 9 intermediary models. Fucking Amazon could have gone straight there instead of making the paperwhite. And look at Kobo, making this piece of shit AND shitty fucking tablets instead of trying to compete with Kyobo - their Korean counterpart.

I hate companies conspiring to slow technological progression because it's more profitable to do so. Especially when there are companies on the other side of the globe laughing at them.

I just bought a Kobo Mini, sexy as fuck. No regrets. Don't plan on buying another e-reader for another 5 years, or until the Kobo Mini breaks, which ever comes first

Patient, young grass hopper. The new tech shall come. You do your part by not buying, and merely waiting.

I have a Glo and love it, but this is too big and heavy and expensive for my taste. I will tell my dad about it as he's losing his near-in vision like all old people and uses HUGE text on his ereader.

I'm most impressed to see that they've increased the DPI significantly over the Glo (which was already high for an eink reader). Bodes well for the next-gen mainstream reader.

I'm still pissed that people accept charging for ebooks and music and games. Humanity's greatest library, the age of information, cut down to another marketplace.

Wow, I'm so surprised that people are even buying ereaders any more...
I'm of the opinion that new ereaders, especially so quickly after the glo, would just fail to sell and send kobo bankrupt...
Clearly I am mistaken...
I love my glo but I have the screen refresh rate at every page so the battery dies fast - the text is distractingly disgusting without the refresh rate

I noticed this much more with my Glo than the Touch I had before. With the higher DPI screens, the ghosting looks way way worse; you pretty much need a full refresh every page to make it look good. Although when you do a full refresh the text looks VERY nice at the high dpi.

>> No.3662769

>>3662759
Aha, glad I'm not the only one...
Yeah it's a real shame - it's a total mess without the refresh, my old Sony prs1 never had this noticeable a problem, as a result I end up barging my ereader about once a week (the light is always on too)

Don't think it's viral dude, I get an email every two hours from kobo telling me to buy some new shit.

It's so that they can sell it for cheaper and reach a wider audience to sell their books to. I remember reading somewhere that they barely make any money on each device; they rely on the percentage they make on each e-book sold

Reflective LED has been a failure because it sucks with a backlight indoors and it sucks in reflective mode outdoors. Better to just have two devices: a tablet for your YouTube and an eink reader for reading.
