Has anybody read this, and if so, is it any good? Looking to learn about evolution a bit more as it's an interest of mine. Not trying to start an argument with any creationists etc, just trying to get some opinions on said book.

I've recently finished Delusion and am looking at some of his other stuff, this one looks good.

It was a decent book, though I would recommend The Ancestor's Tale instead. IMO TAT was much more interesting and covered about everything in The Greatest Show On Earth .

it's the only book i've read on the subject and I liked it, explains things pretty nicely

I haven't read Greatest Show, but I did like The Selfish Gene & The Extended Phenotype.

I'd highly recommend Neil Shubin's "You Inner Fish".

It doesn't get nearly as in depth about evolution as does The Greatest Show on Earth, or Why Evolution is True by Jerry Coyne, but I found it more readable and good primer for someone interested in the subject of evolution.

I always liked to imagine Dawkins as the raging neckbear of a greentext story when he describes his experience of being on that talkshow for fundamentalists in America.

>Hey Richard! You sure you're right on this whole "Evolution" malarkey?
>From what I've se-
>Where's the missing link?
>w-w-well if you look at the-
>I'm not seeing any development between Habilis and Erectus!
>uh-um actually if you-
>*Dawkins awkwardly raises a skull and tries his best to discuss similarities and development but only spouts gibberish*
>I think you've invested to much interest into this monkey business of yours!
>*While on awkward shuffle to a giraffe carcass Dawkins falls under the weight of diagrams and papers he's carrying*
>Poor Richard here has gone bananas!
>*crowd of pastors, homeopathics and astrologists laugh hysterically at an embarrassed Dawkins*
>Fast forward a few years to a vengeance filled Dawkins re-writing the whole thing and calling everyone stupid.

It's pretty god damn boring, but I managed to get through it earlier this year. I mean, the topics are fascinating but I'm not a fan of his writing at all.

>> No.3602449

The Greatest Show On Earth is fine, The Ancestor's Tale is incredible.

>> No.3602465

Biology is simple.

Go read some popsci stuff on cosmology or physics and you will not learn anything but the fact that you know nothing.

If you want a book on evolution, then buy a book on evolution. Do not buy a book by Dawkins who "spiritualizes" evolution. I suggest "Beak of the Finch", "On the Origin of Species" or "The Structure of Evolutionary Theory". Dawkins puts out shit book after shit book. I enjoy his religion bashing and his optimistic sciencism but it feels as if I am talking with an over confident 15 year old. It lacks rigor and lucid explanations.

Sounds like you're a dumb fucker who not only doesn't belong here but probably doesn't even have a degree in a science field.
