I generally want to be more well-read in terms of political ideology. What manifestos, dissertations, essays, or what have you would be essential to a basic yet thorough understanding of political ideologies? I'd also like recommendations on anarchist texts specifically.

Thanks in advance.

before the suggestions of Hobbes and Locke, and Marx and Friedman and Paine, let me just say you should really consider getting an overview book, an introduction to political theory kind of book. and an introduction to philosophy, cause there's a lot of overlap. It can give you some good leads, and sometimes Lit overlooks the entry level nonfiction

Any suggestions on a good book that would serve as an intro to political theory?

History of Political Philosophy, 3rd edition edited by Leo Strauss and Joseph Cropsey.

From Amazon: "his volume provides an unequaled introduction to the thought of chief contributors to the Western tradition of political philosophy from classical Greek antiquity to the twentieth century. Written by specialists on the various philosophers, this third edition has been expanded significantly to include both new and revised essays."
