I would list this one as well. Definitely one of the most amazing book I've ever read, Brazilian or not. Also, have you seen the documentary "Terra deu, Terra come"? Not only it is one of the most interesting films that came out of Brazil, but also one that show just how genius Rosa's prose was. Os Maias by Eça de Queiroz is my favourite book besides those two, but I reckon it lacks the universality that could captivate non-Portuguese readers -it's a fantastic social commentary on the Portuguese society and ethos though. Perhaps something from Pessoa as others have suggested.
