What of his should I read first?

Is there anything I should read in preparation?

>Is there anything I should read in preparation?

Lacan, Hegel and Marx, at least.

>> No.3527703

sublime object

it'll really help if you read some secondary stuff on lacan and hegel

if you've heard of zizek, chances are you already have a good enough grasp on marx but if you're not confident you should brush up on him as well. it's a synthesis of ideas from all these philosophers.

You could probably skip Hegel, imo.

I watched a ton of his talks on youtube before I read any books of his. This is particularly good

Thanks. I have little to no experience with philosophers outside of the philosophy of religion.

Awesome. Thanks, Anon. This is very helpful.

Would not it be more productive to study physics, chemistry, biology?

No intention of trolling

I don't know. I fell asleep reading First as Tragedy, Then as Farce, so that might not be a good place to start.

No, Lordship and Bondsman from Phenomenology of Mind is absolutely necessary. Hegel's 'What is Philosophy' is also a very useful short read before embarking on the journey of 20th century philosophy.

I love all of those subjects. I try to get in as much as my tiny mind can understand.

Good to know.

I've explored Dawkins and read Hitchens, actually. I like them both.

I don't think you need to read anything first besides Marx.

Because, for instance, Lacan is constantly referenced and it's good to have a grasp on his terms, but in order to read Lacan you need to read Freud and others. However, Zizek himself is a good introduction to Lacan and he puts it in a very easy way, at least as far as it is concerned that which he is talking about in relation to Lacan.

Have a look at How to Read Lacan by Slavoj.

Also, read his articles. They are fast and simple and you'll be able to skim through most of what he usually say in the interviews and so on. A lot of repetitive jokes, same old points he addresses, etc. The books go deep into other things, but the surface of Zizek is in his articles.

He doesn't go too deep, he doesn't say anything too new, but I think he is incredibly clear in what he says(I think some might disagree here), not to mention very entertaining and overall insightful when he touches contemporary issues in the light of what he read on Lacan, Marx, Hegel, etc. There is a torrent out there called "Slavoj Zizek Bibliography" in which you'll find all you need.

I read every one of his books in his voice.

It's wonderful and glorious. It makes reading them almost funny.
