following on from that thread, where do I start off on Nietzsches work? Skip the birth of tragedy? Untimely meditations then all, all too human? Opinions on truth and lies in a non moral sense?

>> No.3524761

Greeks.

Following a tradition "Greeks" has to be the first answer.

For deliciouscore Nietzsche I'd dive straight into Faggot Science and proceed towards the end from there. Human, all too Human and The Dawn are nice but not necessarily quintessential Nietzsche. It was his breaking loose from romanticism and Schopenhauer and Wagner and all that. He gets a bit positivist at times. Brit of Tragedy and Untimely Deviations are pretty Schopenhauerian still. Good stuff, especially the latter, but the Nietzsche that is Nietzsche as Nietzsche is Nown is Gay to Homo.

You should probably read the things he was obsessed with first.

Sounds good. Do I need to read birth of tragedy to understand untimely?

Genealogy of Morals

Also, Deleuze's book on Nietzsche is really good.

Not really. But if you're going all chronological on his ass you might as well read Birf, it's a tiny work.

It's not a bad idea to read Zarathustra, then read Beyond Good and Evil, just to read Zarathustra again the right way.

Well for Nietzsche that's actually kind of true...

It's exactly true, unless you're only looking to tick a book off a list.

As someone who loves Nietzsche I'll advice you not to read his books before getting good knowledge on history, greek mythology, philosophy, religion and Schopenhauer.
See his books are not written for the masses, they require you to be literate.
If you have all that then the best way to approche him is to start reading his book in chronological order. That way you are gonna be able to follow his way of thinking and see how his point of view changes in time.

Also don't fucking reading Nietzsche if you are LOOKING FOR THE ANSWER and some bullshit like this.

lol read the zarathustra without previous knowledge of his thinking, understood it as a collection of social-critical points and as a discussion of ethics as a concept. also massive ego masturbation

Is the point of Zarathustra being in the cave because of the whole polemic against Plato then?

Plato reversed the whole 'I'd rather be a slave on earth than a king in hell" in his cave parable, he even used the same exact words for shadows and figures. Nietzsche thought he would get back to a pre-platonic state if he turned Plato on his head, but he didn't.

I don't know, long time since i read it

Thats why Zarathustra is the most popular ;)
