OP here-

I hated it because there was no point to the book. He walks around hungry, gets fed a couple times, yells at his landlady, gets kicked out and end of story. What is unique about that story? I don't need action but it was painfully slow and boring so a little action would be nice like a murder mystery or a jewell heist etc.
