I've been thinking about submitting a flash fiction I wrote, but I'm pretty sure no one would want to read it.

I suck at writing. Oh god.

That's deep.

>> No.3469420

I've had a handful of short stories in magazines and one novel published locally. There's plenty of others on here with similar credentials.

>> No.3469448

One of my past novels was on the NYT 'best seller' list, I wont say which, nor am I proud of the work.

Name one decent self-published novel.

Yes, a wrote a little children's story that did alright. Only took me fifteen minutes to write.

Nothing I have put any actual time or effort into has been published though.

I got a short story published a few months ago, in a magazine read by about ~2000 people. Not a huge deal, in other words

I'm not sure anyone on /lit/ will ever get published. Perhaps if they stop writing sci-fi and fantasy. And crap.

scif-fi and fantasy is more likely to be published than wanna-be classics trash. The worst genre fiction still sells a predictable amount. A shitty try-hard book, though, has no potential.

Think of film. Tinsel-town will rehash the same romcom formula and shitty parody-movie because it makes a very predictable amount. They simply give the film a smaller budget than that amount and make tons of them. Artistic movies only turn a profit when they are exceptional, so it is rarely worth the gamble. Movies like "The Artist" for example need to prove themselves before enjoying a wide release.

So, it's really not that hard to write a shitty sci-fi book and get some boiler-plate contract.
