if people are listening yeah.

even in a conversation 1 person speaks as others listen. even conversations are lectures. just shorter with more frequent interruptions where someone else becomes the speaker.

otherwise a discussion would only be a rabble where everyone talks at once, which is nonsense.

>> No.3377959

I think there's something to that quote. For example I very rarely talk about subjects pertaining to my life, or people I've met, and I know some people who only talk about those things. And then there's people who only follow the news, but aren't so interested in the long perspective or the recurring patterns. I think these people like to stay on top of things, but aren't so interested in getting to the bottom of things (to paraphrase Knuth). And then I think there's people like me who are willing to talk about a very very broad range of topics, and I suppose they can see the relations between superficially disparate topics. That doesn't sound exactly like ideas, but I guess they're patterns which are captured in ideas. Who knows.

So I think there's something to it. Also, women are very people-oriented if you're going by what their magazines talk about, not to put too fine a point on it.

I interpreted this in a slightly self-congratulatory way, but most of us do it.

I know you're trolling, but it seems like most people ITT don't understand OP's quotation. It's not that "small mind never discuss any people of any kind". The phrase "small minds discuss people" refers to idle chitter-chatter about what Suzy Neighborwoman is doing with Joe the Plumber.

It's not about historically significant figures, but more about mediocre twats living next door.
