>Be the editor-in-chief for a poetry anthology project
>Taking a cue from Black heart Magazine, I suggest to my fellow editors that we give people "suggestions" of what kind of subject matters to avoid, such as poems about "Morning after" and "Break-up poems"
>My editors become ravenous and vehement at the mere suggestion of any kind of "light censorship"
>Don't want to be a dictator so I go with the flow
>50% of the poems turn out to be about break-ups and and morning afters
>That feel when I told you so

Fuck.

next time give them a topic to write about.

>> No.3365281

also OP, what is a morning-after poem?

>> No.3365284

That's generally what your going to get without any suggestions. I'm on the editorial board of my uni's literary magazine and I'd say a good 70% of what we get are morning-after and breakup poems, along with some weird, stalkerish reveries (the girl obviously hasn't gotten over it, and yes, it's a girl) and general "literary" romance. This forces us to publish the occasional poem we get about "Celebrity Ghost Stories" or someone's bike getting stolen.

Today I ate a burger
Full of meat and oily
Laid upon a lettuce leaf
Like a tray upon a doily
Amongst those greens a gherkin
I guess that's like a knot
A knot in a wooden table
(that's the bun that's what)
Now the metaphor's overextended
And I've really messed up the scansion
But why one earth should you care
You're reading a poem about a burger.

Better or worse than "Morning after" or "Break-up poems"?

Pulitzer here I come, assuming they have the same problems as the OP. Tracy K. Smith won with some break up poems, right?

in their submission guidelines they used to put "topics that have been done to death" and warned against certain content and themes. I guess they've grown more desperate or something and took it away.

They also began charging people for critiques/responses (in where they used to do that for free).

Became friends with one of the 3 ftm trans who did nothing but bitch about her parents never supporting her despite paying for her to live in a flat because she couldn't sharing with others.
