Is there a name for the literary technique where a story begins in a certain situation and the rest of the story is leading up to that situation? It's meant to be a hook and it's pretty common (for instance, most Breaking Bad episodes open this way) technique. Does anyone know the name? Much appreciated.

A cold open (also called a teaser[1]) in a television program or movie is the technique of jumping directly into a story at the beginning or opening of the show, before the title sequence or opening credits are shown. On television this is often done on the theory that involving the audience in the plot as soon as possible will reduce the likelihood of their switching away from a show during the opening commercial.[2]

Is that it OP? I think it might be /tv/ that uses that definition, /lit/ might use something else.

But it's not it. In media res is starting a story in the middle, not starting it with the end. . .
