I'm getting more written in less time than I ever did before. That said, it's complete lack of editing and formatting tools requires that once I'm done writing a piece in Ommwriter, I have to take it over to Word in order to edit it.

However, for that first draft, there is quite literally nothing better.

Many writers prefer not to write on computers the first time through because of temptation to edit. Most writers worth their salt will tell you that it is important to get your idea on the page first and THEN edit.

I have one too!

If you can get over the derivative look (to say the very least - it is the Japanese curse after all) and the boooooring nib design, then it is one sweet and dependable pen!

Full body ink-window, huge ink-capacity (way larger than the pen from which it borrows its looks), sturdy design (again, much sturdier than the pen it's copying) and the usual Pilot smoothness of nib, with a little hint of springiness.

If you want a Japanese fountain pen, and are not looking to spend Nakaya prices (they are just art, sublimely functional art, but art all the same), then this Pilot takes the cake, and is their true functional flagship (fuck the custom 845).

That being said, it is not currently my favourite writer, but it's continually in my rotation nevertheless.

That's too broad of a question as both are very good brands that produce quality pens.

I shall assume that you're referring only to fountains right? Because they both produce a whole range of writing implements.

Sailor IMO is kind of boring, purely because of the lack of interesting filling mechanisms - not a cause for concern for normal people, I would think.

However, Sailor really shines with its special nibs, for which you'll mostly have to shell out the big bucks (500+), and even then you've got the problem of a "nice engine but a teaspoon's worth of a fuel as tank".

If you mentioned some models, then we can talk, but on the whole they're both pretty good.
(pilot is more interesting in the middle price range, but Sailor is when you go up in price)

It depends on the model.

However, Sailor really shines with its special nibs, for which you'll mostly have to shell out the big bucks (500+), and even then you've got the problem of a "nice engine but a teaspoon's worth for a fuel tank".

Even their flagship, the "King of Pen" has a laughable ink capacity.

>Sailor is when you go up in price)

But, I might add, purely because of the interesting nibs; they haven't really got much going for them besides that I think.

Oh, as far as ink capacity? If you're not talking ink cartridges, then pilot wins hands down as far as all bottle filling mechanisms go.

They have converters that hold more, a piston filler that holds more than Sailor's, and a plunger filler (the 823 has one) that Sailor hasn't ever attempted.

That being said, I would like to get their Realo model some day for collecting's sake. What's holding me back is that I already have a 1911, and since they have the same nibs and all.... well, it's not so high on my priority list.

Perhaps we live in different cultures; I frequently find myself discussing writing implements with others, at work, at school, people look at my pen when I show them things on paper or help them out, or when we talk during lectures. People have pointed out to me when I have the same pencil as someone else in the room. As such, I try to keep my writing implements low-profile but also try to ensure that I get ones I enjoy.

It's not like I strike up conversations about fountain pens either, unless I know the person is interested in fountain pens or calligraphy beforehand. That's just how people around me behave. They aren't as oblivious as you might think your people are.
