This gives me a chance to ask people who've read Martin, can the guy actually END a story? His characters do seem to be pretty awesome but from what I know of the stories, the only closure any of them ever find is gruesome murder.

Fair criticism, I've thought the same myself. I suppose when writing this stuff you have a choice. One way is to have your separate characters do the cool action stuff while you hash out the details, and when they inevitably meet back up you just throw in something like "Then they told each other the stories of their journey, blah yada blah." The other way is to have your characters do the action stuff, skimp on some details but get the major points, but then when the peeps meet up after, allow the *characters* to tell the story (getting a new perspective and build on their development and personality). Not sure if there is a BEST way to do it but obviously Tolkien preferred the latter

The problem is that your weight problem is not just your problem. I personally don't care about the obesity of any person I don't have a relationship, as in if a person is fat, okay, they're fat. My problem is that people live in such a way that they become obese. Being obese in unhealthy, and the road to there is unhealthy, and I don't want the people who are yet to become obese or even to be born, to be influenced by this environment. Thus I want a society that doesn't just say "okay, these people can become obese in no time at all, let's not try to do anything about it". Obesity is not always a choice. Some people become obese in no time at all, while I can barely gain weight if I try. And I'm born into an economical level where I can afford to look critically at food and decide to pick the healthier, more expensive option. And I have received an education that has provided sufficient information to make me know about the pros and cons. A lot of people don't get such a good education, or have the time to pick the less convenient solution, or the money to buy anything but the cheapest food, etc. etc.. Some islanders in Oceania are genetically predisposed to fat retention (95% of the population of Nauru are clinically obese) Then we have countries with a similar genetic makeup to them; Samoa, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Palau etc.., which all have incredible levels of obesity. Sure, the 'western' obesity epidemic is usually due to a horrendous intake of fat and monosaccharides, but there is a legitimate genetic factor too.
