Most obvious fraud of the last two centuries. Incredibly dangerous as well.

Sorry to hear that, it seems like the only people who have anything good to say about the church of scientology are still all wrapped up in it. However, groups of people still practise it outside of the church, freezone or w/e. Was it the church you had a problem with, or the materials? or both?

Whenever people talk about how big of a fucking idiotic fraud this is, sometimes there are those edgy types who try to say that the only reason it isn't taken as seriously as the world religions is because it's such a recent development blah blah blah.

I tend to disagree. It's just such an obvious fucking scam. Didn't Hubbard even say something to the effect of, "The way to get rich is to create a religion. That's where the money is."?

Yep, he said that. I think people like Scientology/Dianetics because there are concrete answers. I think that's really all there is to it. Nothing to have faith in really, well supposedly. It's like, here are the answers to all problems in life. It sounds good doesn't it, too bad LRH was a drug addict compulsive liar.

>>Thoughts on L. Ron Hubard/Scientology?

One of the greatest scams ever conceived. I can't believe that in 2013 someone is asking about this claptrap, but ... I guess some someone is. Here, let Harlan Ellison, who knew Hubbard personally, explain:

"...Lester del Rey then said half-jokingly, ‘What you really ought to do is create a religion because it will be tax-free,’ and at that point everyone in the room started chiming in with ideas for this new religion. So the idea was a Gestalt that Ron caught on to and assimilated the details. He then wrote it up as ‘Dianetics: A New Science of the Mind’ and sold it to John W. Campbell, Jr., who published it in Astounding Science Fiction in 1950.”
