it's the crown of all the literature, you fool

>> No.3294629

My eyes perceive text on a page. Via a complicated apparatus of all kinds of references, these symbols are translated into a vague context of signification in my mind.

Step 1: Have eyes (IMPORTANT!!)
Step 2: Look at poetry
Step 3: Digest until poetry has ended

I'm not insulting it I just want to read it. I read every poem with the same pacing how do you read it?

>> No.3295059

Op read the ode less travelled by Stephen Fry, admittedly it's about writing g poetry but you get a good understanding about reading and appreciating poetry as well

Verse poetry: Read and enjoy

Free verse poetry: LIKE, LET THE POEM TOUCH YOUR HEART, MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN. SAVOUR EACH WORD AND LINE LIKE IT'S FILET MIGNON, READ THE POEM 19 TIMES SO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW EVERY WORD IS A THING AND THEN HOW THE TAPERING OF THE LINES REPRESENTS A LEAF BECAUSE THE POEM IS ABOUT A LEAF (WHICH IS WHY IT'S CALLED "TUMBLING WASTREL IN A DREARY FOG")

E.E. Cummings: I get it. Do you get it? I totally get it. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

Not OP but could you recommend more books on writing poetry? If they can be found in spanish then better but if not, no problem.

i'd follow Ezra Pound's advice:

1. Direct treatment of the "thing" whether subjective or objective.
2. To use absolutely no word that does not contribute to the presentation.
3. As regarding rhythm: to compose in the sequence of the musical phrase, not in sequence of a metronome.

>> No.3295842

Try not to just half-assedly read it through once. Go slowly and let it linger a bit. Think about things like form and metre and word choice and its effect on the poem.

I suggest taking an Intro to Poetry class at a local college. Learning to read poetry is one of the things they focus on in depth.
