Attention: /lit/ users who have read both The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, I need your opinion on something. I would like to know, between these two books, which do you think would require a high comprehension level. I am not including the fact that AS is double the size of The Fountainhead, I just mean which has a more complex literary style. Merci!

Are you going to use this to try to indoctrinate a child?

No, I am just looking for an opinion for my own self interest.

>> No.3281333

Neither of those books require "a high comprehension level", OP.

Your own... rational self interest?

I didnt say they would, I said which of the two requires a "higher" comprehension level. As in which of the two is more difficult. I am worried that this thread is soon just going to turn into opinions on whether people like ayn rand.

Basically, they take some trudging to get through. But if you have a basic education (as in you can read) you should be fine. Objectivism isn't that hard to understand...
Pic semi-unrelated.

Most of /lit/ doesn't. A few people on /lit/ do.

There. I just saved everyone the effort.

The Fountainhead, because it's the only one of the 2 I read.

Why don't you just read them?
Or is the object of your post to figure out which one to read?

Fountainhead is better as a story. AS has a messy plot, but her philosophy is more thoroughly defined. Might as well read her essays.

I have already read Fountainhead I am just wondering if AS would be a considerably more challenging book.

>> No.3281466

>>3281448

not really more challenging. just longer

>> No.3281556

They're both very easy books if you can maintain interest in the subject matter. A.S pretty much spells out the entire theme of the book in the plainest language near the end. A reasonably curious pre-teen could enjoy it. That's not a dig, I just think a pre-teen could read it.

About the same, op. Not very challenging. Some of Rand's more academic works are a bit heavier.

Of the two, read The Fountainhead. Better story.

The Fountainhead has a Lexile of 780. Atlas Shrugged is 1070.

Lexile scores are a score of complexity of content, ranging from 0 to 2000; the higher the number, the more complex the material. So, Atlas Shrugged is more complex than The Fountainhead.

Aside from that, though, Rand was laughed out of academia because of her lack of academic rigor. Stick to someone with better standards.

You've just proved the accuracy of Lexile scores. Rand and Hawk are both babbling idiots. Rand because she's fucking retarded, and Hawk because he fell on his head too many times.
