>dad has meeting with me today, a few weeks after i turned 21
>complete beta fucking loser
>anon i need to tell you something, there is a lot of money i have been saving since before your birth for you in mutual funds and the money is yours now
>well dad how much is it
>$50,000

/lit/ I am in shock. I don't know what to do. I'm such a beta fucking loser and feel sorry for him and don't want to take the money, but it's legally mine.

What should I do

>> No.3272311

invest the money/leave it in existing funds
keep it around for life emergencies
one day you'll wake up and not be a loser and then you can have the money for real

I'd buy a cheap condo somewhere and get a job while I write

>> No.3272321

Keep it. Don't invest it in anything like gold or copper or some other shit idiots tell you to do. Or penny stocks. You'll lose it. If you did want to invest it's just about enough to have a fairly diversified portfolio, not lose all profits to fees, and still have a tiny bit left over, but you'll lose a lot of liquidity, and you'd have to do your homework. You can put some of it in savings bonds if you can find some with a decent return if you want to keep a lot of it readily accessible.

If you can't decide what to do with it, stick it in a bank account and let the piddly interest mount up... while you decide what to do with it.

Honestly, though, I would donate a chunk of that (10 to 20k?) to charity helping people who've been shat on by life. I'd consider it a "decrease worldsuck" self-tax/moral obligation to deal with such an unearned windfall, were I in your position. Just make sure it's a legitimate charity (Heifer International, a pet cause (CBLDF, Child's Play, saving libraries or some shit), something endorsed by Givewell, etc), and go for it.

Or not. Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law, to thine own self be true, and other misapplied, mangled quotations.

Keep it. Invest it safely. Use it for the down payment on a house or some land. LEL at the guy who wants you to buy a condo.

1.) This has nothing to do with literature.
2.) This is not a "moral conundrum".

You're a complete beta fucking loser? But now you have 50k. Become the alpha male you should be. Get a personal trainer and lift. If you can't be bothered doing that, spend your money on heroin and hookers.

>> No.3272382

Don't take it if you think you can't handle it. Chances are you'll fuck it all over, ask your dad for help if you can, no shame in that. It's better than whatever the hell you're doing now at any rate.

Do you think you could tell me what you had in mind when you were saving it? Do you have any thoughts on a good way to handle the money? This.

You didn't know you had it, leave it where it is and let it grow. By the time you're fifty you might not need any other retirement. Seriously, you can now go do anything with your life that you want and this will always be there for you to fall back on.

True, an alpha would probably use it to feed poor families or help people in general, but this is why alphas usually die young and broke: they think they own the world and everybody's welfare is their responsibility.

This is where your betaness can help: betas compete, and you've got a leg up on lots of your cohort now, Should do wonders for your self image. With your new confidence, you can successfully get jobs, pick up chicks and eventually get married, have kids, be in the alpha position yourself as the head of a family.

Tl;dr. It's all good. Keep it

post script:Lifting couldn't hurt either.

>By the time you're fifty you might not need any other retirement.

29 years of compound growth at a reasonable 6% p.a. will leave you with ~270k, which after accounting for inflation at 2% p.a. is about 155k in today's money. Literally an order of magnitude away from being "retirement money".

WHAT interest? 2% versus 4% inflation.
