So are screenplays/drama enjoyable to read or it mostly an education thing?

I'm thinking of Ancient Greek stuff but I'm curious about the later periods.

Does the translation from the stage to a novel like form fuck it up?

Recommendations?

Most can be enjoyable to read, though you should probably supplement them with watching a performance.

Screenplays are fun to read, they only take an hour and are good to study if you want to write one.

I just watched that episode of The Sopranos yesterday. Never really gave it a chance before. I'm loving it. Great story and I love Tony as a character. Can't wait to see where it goes.

I find that it really depends on the playwright. Playwrights that direct from the page are far more enjoyable to read, in my opinion. The inclusion of detailed scenery and explanations as to where characters are moving on the stage allow the reader to more readily identify what is happening and create a mental picture. Directing from the page has become a faux pas recently but can be readily found in older works from the 19th century and early 20 century.
