Why is the second part of this so boring?

>> No.3239337

Because he had already fucked her, and the tension leading up to that is gone

But nothing interesting happens afterward. He dwells on unimportant things and simply dismisses others as hallucinations.

I have forty or so pages left and I fear the story won't pick up again. Humbert is an uninteresting person.

Well he kills a guy at one point

I liked the rest of the book, the whole "on the road fucking like rabbits while avoiding detection, and worrying that he's losing her" thing is more interesting then almost everything before he even met Dolores.

Yeah I never really got that part. He wanted to fuck her but then he gets pissed that some other guy got to her first and goes batshit? It's been a while since I've read it though...

>> No.3239394

Yes OP, it does drag a wee bit in the middle. Persevere for the slapstick fight scene and the conclusion.

(Then go back and read the editors note at the beginning.)

>> No.3239411

I'm not even enjoying this anymore. The esoteric references have become too plentiful and I no longer have the energy to Google Translate randomly interspersed French phrases.

>>3239394
The foreword by Dr. John Ray? I already read it.

Quilty didn't really get to her first; he molested her a little when Charlotte went to one of his parties. Humbert gets angry because Quilty steals Lolita from him. He of course contrives a reason for revenging her - that Quilty hurt her - but really wants to do it because Quilty 'won. He also gets pissed that Quilty is far better at nearly everything than he is.

Quilty is pretty much the alpha; Humbert's the beta.

Yes, but certain things in it don't become clear until you finish reading. I know I missed one vital detail that didn't become apparent until I finished the book.

So he was the guy following them in the gray car the whole time? lol How can someone be so retarded as to think he's hallucinating something like that? Jesus Christ, Humbert.

>> No.3239546

I feel so betrayed. Did Lolita not feel any sort of attachment to Humbert?

>> No.3239561

>>3239455

Yeah bro. Quilty first appears at the Enchanted Huntress. He's the guy asking lewd questions on the balcony.

Humbert thought the dude was a cop. He's a paedophile who's been in asylums bro - cut him a little slack.

No. She had a little crush for a while but only because he resembled Quilty (the 'movie star' in the poster on her wall).

I never understand how people think think Lolita loves Humbert. She played him so well. My professorceven discovered that Lolita makes them go on another roadtrip so that Quilty wouldn't get in trouble for transporting minors across state lines for sexual purposes.

Book's deep bro.

I felt like she only showed him attachment when she wanted something or didn't get her way.

I think she really just despised him and pitied him. Kind of like one of those moments where you realize adults don't know everything and are prone to error and she was growing up to realize that she could get her way be using her body

The most implausible shit ever - another paedophile steals your child.

>>3239568
Evidently she doesn't love him, but spending than two years with someone, constantly getting intimate, has to have some sort of effect.

Yeah, it's called stockholm syndrome

It wasn't just another pedo dude. It was motherfucking Clair Quilty. Besides, Lolita flirted with everyone. She's gunna catch at least one.

Is that supposed to have historical importance? I just found out that he wrote the play Loli performed in.
