I did very well on the SATs and PSATs and I'm incredibly stupid.
SAT: 1980 (top 98 percentile in both literature sections, bad in mathematics)
It really, really, doesn't measure anything.
Trust me.

To add onto this:
A lot of high school is rubbish. It has only little to do with intelligence but a lot to do with actually completing the assignments and memorizing formulae. At least in NJ public high schools.
Many smart people just don't want to do all of that work, and many not-very-smart people do all of the work, the latter getting into a much 'better' college.

It's an achievement test, nothing like an IQ test.
The first time I took it I got a 1750, the next time a 1980. I know people who have gained 300-500 points.
That shouldn't be how it is. It shouldn't be, "Thanks for the $1000 SAT practice classes, Mom!"

I don't recall the number scores but it was 98% math, 99% verbal, 88% writing. The topic was something like 'write about someone who was influential to modern America' and I wrote about Ron Jeremy.

But yeah, it measures nothing. I'm not even remotely good at math. I scored similarly when I took it back when I was in 8th grade. The tests are tailored for the retarded, even 10+ years ago.

It's hard for me to say because I took it 4 years ago, but I honestly don't remember the writing section being very difficult. If you're really worried, buy some Adderall and maybe one of those SAT prep books.

Here's a table of percentile ranks (learn to google, bro):

My high school pressured everyone to take it at least twice (though no more than three times), but I got 1940 or something the first time around and left it at that. I didn't apply to any "reach" schools, and if I do ever feel like transferring they're only going to be looking at my grades in my actual college coursework.

I don't remember the breakdown of the scores but I do remember my Writing was the highest, Math my lowest. I also took some of the SAT Subject Tests; did really well in U.S. History, quite mediocre on Bio with little preparation.
