Hey guys, I've a question..
My country (The Netherlands) is famous for it's artists, but mostly for painters. MC Escher, Van Gogh, Mondriaan, Rembrandt.. I was wondering, what is the most internationally well known Dutch writer/book..?
Pic related, famous Dutch people.

Yeah, this was made with the help of some other Dutch anons. Let me know if there's anything you think should be added to it. /lit/ has a strangely large amount of Dutch people.

I'd bet Cees Nooteboom is one of the more known in the wake of the Nobel Prize discussion. He was a big contender. Nescio gets mentioned on /lit/ a whole lot, so I'd say he's one of the more popular on /lit/.

for me its Baruch Spew Nose Out, the optician and lesser known philosopher of the philosophy of one, a presaging of the emersonian transcendental teddy bear which mathematical platonists hold tight to their chests during the long Sleep of Reason.

As an educated American anon, I am certain you will want to know my opinion. Unfortunately I don't have one, for as much as I love your country, I'm not sure I've read anything by any of your writers. From this >>3220216 I recognize only Erasmus. You guys need to get better at marketing.

Erasmus and Spinoza are most well known. Mandeville is Dutch by birth.

Dutchie reporting in

I only know Mark Rutte, Willem van Oranje, Vincent van Gogh, Anne Frank, Pim Fortuyn and Doutzen Kroes.
Frankly, I dont really give a damn about my own country and have always been much more interested in other cultures.

De Binocle by Louis Copuers is a brilliant short story, probably never translated. I thought W.F. Hermans was pretty well known in Germany. Belcampo has to be the most overlooked writer in history. In Holland he is as good as unknown and unread, not to speak of the rest of the world. He wrote some flawless surrealist novellas.

That is what caused the trouble. Look out. Please let me up. If you do this, you can go on and jump right here in the lake. I know who they are. They are French people. All right. Look out, look out. Oh, my memory is gone. A work relief police. Who gets it? I don't know and I don't want to know, but look out. It can be traced. He changed for the worse. Please look out; my fortunes have changed and come back and went back since that. It was desperate. I am wobbly. You ain't got nothing on him but you got it on his helper.
