Great read.
Sam I am is successful in his persuasion when he convinces the "man" to eat green eggs and ham however the initial thesis, "I do not like that Sam I am," is never resolved which adds to the existential flavor of these lively tome.

It's a pretty long read but worth it.

Sam is stuck in a deep existential malaise

Simple things like ham cannot exist in isolation from gross, bizarre things like green eggs

Sam longs for a world where ham is ham, all by itself in perfect equivalence.

There is no ham. There is only 'green eggs AND ham.'

This is a simple metaphor for Sam's inability to like anything.

This results from the initial false tautology: I am Sam.

Say that to yourself: 'I am [your name].'

How do you feel?

You don't feel good about it.

Because it's not true.

You are not your name.

And yet, you are. You are that which can be named.

And there's no escape.

the original Shakespeare is best i think:

"This likes me not; and thus adeui
to flesh of swine of verdant hue
and fruit of fowl of vernal cast,
begone, i say! I'll break my fast
On more conventional repast.

Perhaps in reynard's company?
encompassed by a cratery,
of paper pulp
all pressed and brown,
t'would to this offered fare
sit down?

Now samuel, begone, i plea.
Thy viands are no lure to me!
Thy proferred vittles hold no charm
my fast resolve thus to disarm!"

I wrote the whole thing up in high school. wanted to call it "green eggs and hamlet" but somebody translated hamlet into seuss-speak first and called it that. I quoted this from memory
