whats your favorite Sartre story?

The Childhood of a Leader for me

>> No.3172140

i love that book so much. its my favorite short story collection.
my favorite is the room. the sexually charged psychosis in that apartment was almost tangible.
also the story 'the wall' has the greatest elucidation (imo) of impending death and its effect on the character.

Does anyone here read sartre?

Or is he 9deep4/lit/?

>> No.3172199

I read some of his work. Seems like a shitty philosopher. Was he a good writer?

Not bad philosopher, shitty writer.

/lit/ is tsundere for Sartre-sempai.

>> No.3172315

Why's he a shitty philosopher?

I've been meaning to read Being and Nothingness and Existentialism Is a Humanism soon, so I'm curious.

/highschool/ has a problem with sartre because it takes them 3+ reads to understand nausea, and whenever they attempt B&N they give up due to what is considered "incomprehensible language". to be honest though, after the tedious obfuscatory underbrush is cleared, b&e leads to a lot of contradictions, a fact which might be typical of the subject itself, rather than flaws in his method. as a philosopher, he is ok. as a writer he is god tier. he did win the noble prize, which like a boss, he refused.
his literary genius cannot be denied, the entirety of post WW2 french lit is based around mimicking his thought and style.but in the end, people on /lit/ will opt for his watered down taolin-esque counterpart (camus)

So if I'm having trouble reading The Plague by Camus do you think it will be impossible for me to read Sartre works?

But WHY?
