>mfw Lovecrafts Cosmic Horror is a code word for an existential crisis leading to nihilism
>mfw Azathoth represents ego death
>mfw I need to stop using drugs

Perhaps one day centuries from now philosophers will be so skilled at Deconstruction that they will be able to talk a person into ego death without even using said drugs?

Hegesias already topped that and talked people into physical death.

>None of this, however, is as strong as the testimony of Cicero,[3] who claims that Hegesias wrote a book called Death by Starvation (Greek: ἀποκαρτερῶν), in which a man who has resolved to starve himself is introduced as representing to his friends that death is actually more to be desired than life, and that the gloomy descriptions of human misery which this work contained were so overpowering, that they drove many persons to commit suicide, in consequence of which the author received the surname of Death-persuader (Peisithanatos).

Are there any books available in English by this guy?

Your interpretation is as lame as fuck, OP. It ruins everything that makes Lovecraft good.

Of course it is. All interpretations are lame as fuck. The curtain is just blue and all that. Literary criticism is worthless.

There's no girls looking, OP. Save yourself for college.

So what do you do? Do you just understand the book as a series of events that have no outside relevance to the real world or psychological significance?

Thats what trips are for. The drug part was just a bit of bad humor on my part.

I never really got the "CURTAINS WERE JUST FUCKING BLUE" vexation, other than my concession that curtains being blue is kind of a stupid thing to analyze if you analyze it independently of everything else and colors aren't a really big theme in a book.

Though it's not as reduced as that, and you're kind of denying a book its worth to say that nothing in it means anything significant.

Its hilarious because lovecraft has a full essay of 6 pieces where he gives the meanings of all his works through the history of horror in literature, and then again in his essay on writing weird fiction.

tl;dr lovecraft says fuck you

It's not that I disagree with your attempt to cut our dear OP down, but I pretty strongly disagree with the notion that the author is the final authority on the meaning of his own work. Case in point: Robert Frost, who claimed suicide was "the furthest thing" from his mind when he wrote "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."
