Almost done with the Riyria trilogy by Michael J Sullivan and I highly recommend it, some good as hell high fantasy action.

Anyone else read?

It's a story about a warrior and a thief, basically. The true glory comes from the fact that the author, Michael Sullivan, wrote all the books (there are six, the three volumes contain two each) in his spare time before he even tried to get them published years later. Almost all fantasy novels are written like this, but I've never seen such an intricate web of stories that felt real before. If you've ever watched Lost, it reminds me of the flashback scenes where characters would meet friends or family of the other characters on the island and it felt organic.

The first book I suspect was written as a standalone. The way it ends it really telling, too, kind of wrapping everything up. It gets better with each novel literally - Theft of Swords contains the two worst (but still 7.5/10), then Rise of Empire (8/10), and then Heir of Novron (9.5/10). If I was ranking the novels instead of the volumes, I would honestly give the last novel (Percepliquis) a 10/10. It's extremely high fantasy, though: people definitely die, but it's not like Joe Abercrombie or something.

Sullivan is also an artist, and drew beautiful covers for the novels when he independently published them. Orbit was to blame with replacing them.

Fucking loved this. The big reveals at the end were quite obvious for some time but I still enjoyed.
