It doesn't have to be op. I prefer to be optimistic about the world around me because I don't see the point in making myself miserable by assuming the world is absolute shit. You'd have to be pretty stupid to spend your lifetime like that, or at least I think so.

This guy has it right. Cynicism is often nothing more than self-fulfilling prophecies and pretentious bullshit.

>> No.3161427

No. You can be cynical and dumb -- which is often the case; or cynical and intelligent. It's not a prerequisite.

>> No.3161429

Cynicism seems to be popular with those who think critically. Those who think critically consider themselves more intelligent.

They're stupid in some ways. Some of them think things have to be bleak and some are so eager to express criticism that they end up making mistakes in their criticism, tergiversating and yet continuing to exercise such cynicism

Cynicism is for poor people. You can keep enjoying luxury if you exercise epicurean restraint.

People who make highly equivocal statements are often labeled as cynical. This doesn't have to be the case.

To quote Turgenev:

"I don't know whether you will agree with me, Darya Mihailovna, but in negation - in complete and universal negation - there is no salvation to be found. Deny everything and you will easily pass for a man of ability; it's a well-know trick. Simple-hearted people are quite ready to conclude that you are worth more than what you deny. And that's often an error. In the first place you can pick holes in anything; and secondly, even if you are right in what you say, it's the worse for you; your intellect, directed by simple negation, grows colourless and withers up."

I totally agree with this guy but often, the people who are cynical don't care for or even want salvation of any kind; in fact, they often think it (and any other positive thing) is "impossible"
