I have legitimately read every single one of DFW's essays. He is a genius. I then picked up Infinite Jest and couldn't get through fifty pages. His fiction sucks donkey-ass-hole. But he is probably one the most enlightened journalist of late 20th c USA

I thought the first 50pgs of IJ were pretty difficult myself, but as I'm approaching the last hundred or so (which I'll be doing all day probably) I don't see how any other book will every enrapture my mind so.

Bukowski was an extremely shitty writer. I would even say Palahniuk is a better writer, and I think he is total shit (besides 2/3 of Rant). I'm more than certain that more than half the people who are saying Bukowski are saying that because they don't understand/haven't read DFW. I'm not saying in the "DFW 2deep4u" they don't understand.

In a way it's like asking who is the better quarterback, Peyton Manning (DFW) or Tim Tebow (Bukowski).
