Discuss? Pretty good novella IMO, definitely 99% about Kafka's daddy issues and anti-capitalism

I saw it more as being about self-worth, in relation to other people. He was still the same guy he always was, but when he lost the ability to provide for his family, they began to see him as nothing.

Getting this soon, first real delve into literature, from more theoretical reading. Really looking forward to it. I've heard so many good things from /lit/ that there is really very little chance it won't be great. THanks guys

definitely true. I think that there was definitely sexual frustration towards the mother and sister (Oedipus complex or just general incestuous attraction), and the fact that it was written at a time when Marxist theory was becoming popular made it rooted in anti-capitalism for me. The whole "i don't wanna go to work" and being tired to the point of death from "needing" to go to work.

So, OP. Is Joseph K an innocent man wrongly convicted, or is he a man so terrible that he's unaware of the terrible crimes he's committed?

I think the trial is his life, he just didn't notice it until the end.
At the start he didn't care much for anything, as it goes on he started to become frantic about the trial and lost control of everything else, then he blamed it all on the lawyer as he was the reason that he started to pay attention to it, when all the lawyer(imperfect as he was) tried to do was help.

The climax was on the cathedral, the entire trial is summed up as "... the court doesn't want anything from you. It accepts you when you come and lets you go when you leave."

And about the whole skirt-chasing thing, he saw love/lust as an easy way out of the trial - he thought that if he satisfies his desires his life will be fulfilled.

The ending was a result of his own shortcomings, being apathetic and self-righteous at the beginning and panicking once he realized what was actually happening.
