/lit/ please help me decide on what to read next. It's between:

>Dune
>20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
>The Picture of Dorian Gray

Thank you.

>Reading Dune
>Loved 20,000 Leagues
>Never read Gray

I'd say go with 20,000 Leagues, it is a more science fiction and less clusterfuck than Dune is.

Ideally though, read all three.

I read 20,000 leagues a while ago, is it supposed to be for young adults? It's the kind of book you read to just enjoy the adventure rather than think about the themes.

Do you really have nothing better to read?

Ignore this guy read Dune.

These are three recent ones I bought, sorry.

Also, I forgot to ask which of the three would you all say is the easiest to blow through? I mean, I just finished a pretty long read previously and kind of wanted a great book that I could get through with ease. Or are they all pretty heavy?

>> No.3126211

All of these are great reads, OP.

20,000 leagues is the easiest

then Dune

Dorian is the hardest, but also the best of the three. I read it in one sitting; I couldn't put it down.

I haven't read dune but from what i've heard, it is antithetical to a light read because so much of it is world-building through immersion.

Thanks for the input everyone. I see that Leagues is considered the "easiest" but my heart is kind of going in the direction of Dune. I should be fine jumping into this one I assume?

I just embarked on 20,000 Leagues Et Cetera m'self. If you've ever read Verne, it isn't new, but it's easy to digest, and it will be entertaining if you aren't the pseudo-intellectual douchebag type that likes to hang around this board and discuss Ayn Rand with yourself.

>> No.3126360

No, I've read Verne before. Journey to the Center of the Earth specifically and I loved it. It was a magical adventure story, I can see why it's an age-old classic.

>> No.3126572

The Picture of Dorian Gray gives a really clear picture of Victorian aristocratic society, and deals heavily with hedonism, corruption of innocence, the superficiality of wit, beauty and language, etc... several scenes about various types of art as well, and Oscar Wilde has an incredibly beautiful prose whose form matches the content of the content (when I was reading it I sometimes felt as though I was indulging in hedonism along with the characters... quite fascinating)

Lots of twist and turns in plot also. It's an excellent book, also very short, light and absorbing.

lololol content of the content oh my

>> No.3126582

reading Dorian gray can be entirely accomplished in a string of bathroom visits. i would recommend reading that just so you can see how much of an annoying prick he is.

(but read Dune everywhere else.)

i'm guessing you take long or very frequent shits and don't care for old school wit.

What would frequent shits have anything to do with it? Regardless of the space between shits, it would still be accomplished in the same number of shits.

Idiot.
